Originally deposited as a VHS video cassette. North Ferriby commemorates V E Day 8 May 1995, 50th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War in Europe Timing Action on film: (00:22) Notice saying 'V E Day 8 May Please Be Here at 1.00 pm.' (00:45) Veterans with medals march past to applause. Also at (33:52). (01:14) Wolf Cubs and Girl Guides march past. (01:51) Vicar stands on bottom step of the War Memorial and asks for silence as wreaths are laid. He reads out a prayer. (02:31) Close-up of the War Memorial, a trumpet plays 'The Last Post.' (03:04) The crowd around the War Memorial sing 'God Save the Queen.' (04:04) A bi-plane performs aerobatic manoeuvres. (05:06) A steam engine with a canopy is overtaken by a red tractor pulling a large trailer full of children. Another steam engine goes by pulling a similar trailer. (05:41) A man in tropical dress speaks to the camera and says ['very long day']. (05:07) Tent with a sign saying 'NAFFI' in the window. (06:04) A clown with a yellow wig drives by in a red miniature car. (06:11) A boy is selling ice cream and then we see a girl in fancy dress wearing an apron and her hair in curlers. Crowds watch as a bonfire is lit. (27:16) 1940s style dance with the Frank Cleveland Band. Couples dance. Also at (34:39). (27:44) A group of actors read out sketches and jokes in the style of a 1940s radio programme. North Ferriby Commemorates V J Day 15 Aug 1995. Seventies Tea Party. (29:56) Vicar, presumed, makes an amusing speech to elderly people sitting down to tea. War Memorial Service 15 Aug (33:32) Vicar speaks from the War Memorial. The traffic has stopped. (33:53) Church bells ring. 20 Aug Riverside Walkway. (36:23) Two ladies admire the Riverside Walkway Sign. (36:47) Royal Naval Cadets and veterans marching along Walkway presumed. (37:47) Inset still photograph of two heavily decorated veterans. (38:11) Open top double-decker bus and an army vehicle drive by. (39:08) Crowds on the Walkway listen to a prayer and Bible reading. The 'Last post' is played on a trumpet. (40.11) Second World War aircraft flies by. (40.20) An inflatable rescue boat, presumed, and a small tug on the Humber act out a rescue. (40:36) A bi-plane and a Second World War plane fly over. (41:22) Men launch a small inflatable boat. (42:08) A larger inflatable boat acts out rescuing a man from the water. (43:06) People in naval uniforms pour out drinks. (43:25) Coloured smoke in the sky as parachutists come down to applause from the watching crowd. (45:52) People serving tea from a tent. (47:13) Someone holds a sheet of paper with '2 Dec 1994 In Celebration of North Ferriby Parish Council's Centenary' - glimpses of the inside of the programme. (48:08) Ferriby Ladies Choir. (50.40) Ferriby Dramatic Society 'A thousand years of Ferriby Councils' - in ancient times and in the future. (59:21) Lynn Gay School of Dancing - Bathing Belles. (1:00:17) Miss E Hitchcock entertains. (1:01:39) Singsong lead by five people on stage including Mr and Mrs Ron Hoodless, presumed. (1:05:45) Ladies in mobcaps are serving tea in a room decorated for Christmas. There is also a craft fair and exhibition. Speech by 'Ted' on the development of the Riverside Walkway. (1:08:02) Scenes of a busy craft fair and exhibition. The stallholders are in Victorian costume. (1:10:28) Children's choir on stage. (1:11:05) 'Ted' gives a cheque for £500 to Ferriby Heritage Group. Remembrance Sunday Nov 1995. (1:11:28) A marching band in kilts with bagpipes and drums. (1:11:50) Parade heads for the War Memorial. We see a gravestone, which fades into the base of the War Memorial. The Union Jack flutters against a clear blue sky and 'Land of hope and glory' plays.
