Originally deposited as a minidisc. Contains reminiscences from James Hartley. Born in Hornsea, in 1933, grew up in Rolston. Discusses father's and grandfather's occupations, his grandfather's farm at Rolston, where his house was in the village, the operation of the dairy farm, going to school in Hornsea, seeing soldiers at the army camp, speaking to soldiers of different nationalities, playing on the farm, tasting ice cream, joining the scouts, celebrating VJ Day with street parties, father in the Fire Service during World War II, what they listened to on the radio, the war effort, going to church, the village being relocated, experience in education, operating a dairy farm during the war, living beside army vehicles, food and bathing, memories of his uncles residence and similar small homes in the countryside.
